Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
ANNA BERLENE TUCKER
Anna Berlene Tucker was born on December 12, 1923 in Milton, NC to Reverend Jonah A. and Nancy Garland Tucker. Anna joined the High Street Baptist Church at an early age during her father’s pastoralship.
Anna attended and graduated from the Caswell County Training School, Yanceyville, NC in 1941.
Anna moved to New York in the early fifties where she would raise her daughter.
Anna had many jobs over her lifetime from housekeeping to sales, but the job she enjoyed the most was caring for her grandson. Every day she would wait to pick him up from nursery school. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and the teachers quickly recognized this asking for her assistance in the classroom. She would continue to care for him and when he entered kindergarten she was offered and accepted the position of Foster Grandparent. She interacted with countless children and parents and became known in the Village of Hempstead as “Miss Ann”.
Those that knew Anna know she loved to dance and was the life of the party. Her daughter would love to dance with her mother again.
Anna leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughter, Dearie Tucker-Harrison, (Cornel) of Hempstead, NY, a grandson, Brandon Harrison, Hempstead, NY, a great-grand daughter, Micah Gomez-Harrison, Bridgeport, Connecticut and two special nieces she called her daughters, Amanda Pettiford (Daniel) and Shirley Wilson (Ronnie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and loving siblings Sippie, Adline, Jewell, Mamie, Lawrence, Leroy and Laura.
