On Friday May 3, 2019 Willie Spencer Poteat died at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC.
Willie S. Poteat was born on June 20, 1943 to Robert Grady Poteat & Minerva Jeffries Poteat. He was educated in the Caswell County Training School. He was enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully and fought in the Vietnam War. He was employed by Thomas and Arthur Paving Company of Danville, VA. He also worked as a manager of the Pantry Convenient Store Companies in Durham and Roxboro, NC.
At an early age, he joined the New Zion Baptist Church and later under the leadership of the late Rev. William P. Thomas, he joined Sunnylevel Baptist Church. After graduating from high school, he married Annie Mae Davidson and to this union twin girls were birthed:Kaye and Faye Poteat. Willie loved to cook, listen to his gospel music and watch the soap operas. He also loved to take trips with his sister Semond and his niece Sharone. He loved going to church with his nephew Reginald, when he had to preach.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters: Faye Penny of Burlington and Kaye Bumpers (Kevin) of Danville, VA; five grandchildren: Jamie & Rachel of Burlington, Vanessa, Tiffany & Kevin II all of Danville; sisters: Semond Coleman of Milton, Brenda Pointer (Johnnie) of South Boston, VA; sister in law: Jeanette Poteat of Danville, VA; devoted nieces: Sharone Hamlett & Peaches Coleman of Miton; one aunt: Geneva Jeffries of Milton; two uncles: George McCain of Milton & Roosevelt Blackwell of Norfolk, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister: Annette Hill and a brother: Robert Hester Poteat, as well as his parents Robert and Minerva Poteat.
