Christopher Thomas Obituary

Christopher Shon Thomas was born on April 16th, 1979, he sadly departed from us peacefully at Duke Hospital in North Carolina on May 13, 2023, he was only 44 years young. Chris's health was always an issue for him from his time of birth and he fought a good fight until the Lord was ready to call him home where he shall suffer no more. Christopher married Kimberly P. Thomas in 2016 and he has lived a captivating full life despite all his health issues, he had a vibrant and curious spirit.

Chris was the son of the late William P. Thomas and Ester Lea-Thomas Bridges. He had one sister JaVera Brynn Thomas who also proceeded him in death at a young age. Chris attended Bartlett Yancey Sr. High School in Yanceyville, NC.

He had an amazing angelic voice, and he sung proudly for the love of God. He attended Brandon Chapel Church in Alton, Virginia with his parents at an early age before becoming a member at Sunny Level Baptist Church in Virginia where his father was the Pastor, and his mother was first lady and a Sunday School teacher for the youth. They would often ask him to share his love of music in the church. Chris truly adored and had a real passion for music and the only time he ever got in trouble was for playing his music too loud while driving. Chris would often break out in a song at family gatherings that would lift everyone's spirit in a mighty and powerful way. He could sing something as simple as a traditional Happy Birthday Song that brings tears to your eyes and joy to your soul.

Chris also had a passion for good food, particularly his mom's good old-fashioned soul food, which he followed in her tradition by learning to cook some of her specialties himself. He lived a portion of his adult life in Danville, Virginia but spent much of his life in North Carolina where he liked washing cars and would venture out in the working world and try to work in several different fields like construction and labor, that inevitably ended up being too difficult a task for his health. Chris had supervisors that grew close to him personally and would work with him through his illness and try to be there for him in many ways, even taking him to work and assisting him in any way they could because of his great personality and his will to at least give it a try. Christopher was a delight to be around, he was loved by so many and had close relationships with some of his cousins.

Christopher's grandparents (David & Mary Lea) (Eliza & John Thomas, Sr) proceeded him in death. Christopher leaves to cherish his memories his wife Kimberly Thomas, his nephew DeAndre Thomas both of VA; 9 Aunts & 7 Uncles; Helen Thomas, Rosetta Watkins, Angela Cunningham (Henry) all in Maryland; Robert Lea (Gloria), Annette Elliott (Connell), Tommy Lea (Sharon) all in NC; John Thomas, Jr., Paul Lea (Shaunell), Kevin Lea (Beverly) and Sheila Kirby, all in Virginia. Christopher has over 300 surviving cousins, a host of friends and a long-time special
friend Catina Jones.
