Debra "Tootie" Stewart Obituary

Ms. Debra Sherelle Stewart, affectionately known as “Tootie”, transitioned from this earthly life to GLORY on October 20, 2024. 


Debra was the daughter of the late Coye Bigelow Stewart and Willie Clarence Stewart. She was born on October 3, 1964 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  


Debra was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey Senior High School, class of 1982. She was awarded a “Certified Nursing Assistant License” in 1999 from Piedmont Community College. Debra was a 2005 graduate of Piedmont Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Criminal Justice. She enjoyed playing softball, reading, going to church and spending time with her family. 


Debra was employed by Bayada Home Health Care for over 20 years under the supervision of Mrs. Shelbia Battle and Mrs. Felicia Echols Cunningham. She was also a devoted employee at Corbett Family Care under the supervision of Vicky Connally. In addition, countless years were spent with her extended families, whom she called her “Private Patients.” She loved them all and they loved her even more. 


She became a member of High Rock Missionary Baptist Church in 2003. There, she held the positions of usher, Sunday School Secretary, Youth Choir Director, kitchen committee member and was a member of the “Just Us Girls” organization that was founded by the late Associate Minister, James Florence.  


Debra was preceded in death by her mother, Coye B. Stewart, her father, Willie C. Stewart and her brother, Phillip Wayne Stewart. 
Ms. Debra Sherelle Stewart leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughters: Miketta (Kia) of Eden, N.C. and Moesha of the home. Two grandchildren: Makenzie and Kaydence, whom she loved dearly and two bonus sons: Jerome Daniels of Danville, Va. And Joel Lee Scott of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. 


Also cherishing her memory are her siblings: Min. Patricia Stewart of Burlington, N.C., Carl Stewart (Brenda), Jean Elkins (Rick), Gerald Stewart and Alicia Stewart, All of Danville, Va., Randy Stewart (Sarah) of Chatham, Va., Keith Poteat of Roxboro, N.C.  and a host of relatives and friends.
