Hubert Norris Sr. was born on September 22, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia as the youngest of five to Hezekiah and Rosie Lee Norris. He was preceded in death by his four siblings; Canor Neal, John Neal, Edith Freeman, and Joseph H. Norris making him the longest living survivor within his generation and the patriarch of the family.
As an Atlanta native, Hubert enjoyed his childhood and teen years in the Fourth Ward District. He was a flourishing student of the Atlanta Public School System and completed his formal education by graduating with a diploma from David T. Howard High School in 1955. As a vibrant young man he soon started his career with General Motors. Soon after, he met the ultimate love of his life Mrs. Juanita Gunn Norris, and married on May 24,1959. From their union came four daughters; Renita N. Russell, Pamela N. Burke (deceased), Debora N. Dupree (Maurice), Michelle N. Bowden (John) and one son Hubert Norris Jr. to all continue exemplifying his legacy of family, hard work, and loyalty.
He was employed with General Motors for over 25 years where he proved his commitment to hard work, community, and family. After retiring in 1991, he maintained employment with the DeBose family for over 50 years. He ultimately completed his employment with a 2nd retirement at age 81. He was truly a jack of all trades.
Hubert Sr. was an active and dedicated resident of the London Townhome community in Southwest Atlanta, Georgia. He served as a committed board member whereby he held the trusted position of Treasurer for a number of years. He is best known as a man of faith believing wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was baptized and joined Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in 2003, where he attended until his declining health.
"Papa", affectionately called by his grandchildren, was a devout sports fan! You could catch him every night tuned in to the sports channel rooting for various teams, but make no mistake, he was absolutely loyal to his Atlanta Falcons and Braves. A lover of fishing, playing the lottery, and taking care of his family, Hubert Sr. is the epitome of a "Real Man".
He often stated his favorite quote, "You need a partner in this life. If they cut the lights off, it won't just be on you".
Honest, steadfast, loving in action, present, a devout protector, and an unwavering provider of family whose memory will be cherished and presence will forever remain honored by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Juanita G.
