James Lawyer Thomas, 85, transitioned on May 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born on July 4, 1934 to the late William Thomas and Lucille Long Thomas in Pittsylvania County.
James loved his family. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed lawn care and he liked to fish. He was also known to enjoy driving trucks.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters: Linda Coles (Jarvis), Vivian Fitzgerald (Thomas) and Jessica Belton (Anthony); a god daughter: Phyllis Witcher; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James Thomas and his siblings: Howard Thomas, Willie Thomas, Jack Thomas, Wes Thomas, Curly Hayes, Martha Coleman, Janie Lawson, Bessie Elmore and Hazel Johnson.
