Mr. Jerry Richmond, age 74, of Leasburg, North Carolina departed this life on March 6, 2020 at Sovah Hospital (Danville Memorial Hospital).
Jerry was born on August 7,1945 in Caswell County to the late Coy Lea and Bettie Richmond. He was a lifelong farmer loving a very simple life working hard in the earth and playing even harder when he gave himself time off. From sun up to sun down, seven days a week, you could see him in the fields. But when he wasn’t, he loved playing baseball, dancing, listening to music, fishing, hunting, frog gigging, playing cards and just having a good time.
One of his greatest services was grooming youth to work. He would go and pick up teenagers from Semora, Roxboro and other nearby areas to come help him on the tobacco farm so that they would have money in their pockets and a sense of pride for example. He enjoyed their help and company as well as being just what they needed at the time. He had a passion for hard work all the way up until his final day.
Jerry was preceded in death by two of his children, Timothy and Marilyn Richmond as well as one brother Larry Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Richmond and daughter, Nannie R. Jeffers of Roxboro North Carolina; daughter, Denise Crisp, two sons, Jerry Farmer and Shallmane Farmer (Linda) of Danville, Virginia. He is also survived by four sisters; Gladys Allen, Brenda Lea, Carolyn Pettiford, and Janice Wiley all of Burlington, North Carolina; two aunts, Cathy Richmond of Leasburg, North Carolina & Mable Thompson of Burlington, NC.; his beloved special friend, Joanne Long; 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
