On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Joyce Marie Hodnett Hightower departed her earthly life at Yanceyville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was the daughter of the late Wesley Hodnett Sr. and Geneva Watlington Hodnett, born November 20, 1961.
Mrs. Joyce Hightower was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey Senior High School. She was employed as a Personal Care Aide by A.R.T. Care until a decline in her health Mrs. Hightower was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Pelham, NC. She was of faith and trusted in the Lord.
Mrs. Hightower was known for her kindness, compassion, and caring nature. She was always concerned about the welfare of others. Even when she was sick, she continued to inquire about others. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her laughter was contagious. Joyce was well-known for her Southern style cooking. She frequently received requests for her dishes, such as sweet potato pies, turnip greens, fried corn bread, chow-chow, and pinto beans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brother: Dodge U. Hodnett, James Hodnett, Wesley Hodnett Jr., and Earl Hodnett; one sister Ella Belle Hodnett Lea.
Mrs. Joyce Hightower leaves to cherish her memories, to her husband Charlie Hightower of the home, one son Kendral Darnell Hunt of Yanceyville, NC; step-daughter Kaliah Powell of Gretna, Virginia, and step-son Antonio Hightower of Schenectady, New York; eight sisters, Irene Gunn of Burlington, NC, Ruby Walters (Leon) of Blanch, NC; Eva Harrell of Danville, VA, Phyllis Wilson (Vaughn) of Atwater, California, Charlene Graves (James) of Reidsville, Louise Garland (Edward), Rosa Clark, Anna Young (Kenneth) all of Yanceyville, NC; three sisters in law, Brenda Jones and Linda Hightower of Yanceyville, NC, Sheron Hightower of Burlington, NC and one brother in law Ronald Hightower of Mebane, NC. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
