Our hearts have been saddened by the loss of our beloved Lewis Wharton jr. aka “Main
Boy”, yet we rejoice in knowing that in accordance to the Apostle Paul in Corinthians 5: 1,"; for we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building
of God, a house not made with hands eternal in the heavens."
Lewis Alexander Wharton Jr. peacefully departed this world on June 30, 2025, at his home.
Born August 27, 1938, in Caswell County, his parents were the late Lewis Wharton Sr. and
Pearl Gunn Wharton. Lewis was educated at Caswell County Training School and later
retired from the railroad as an accountant for Amtrak.
Lewis Wharton Jr. leaves behind 3 adult children; Bryon Wharton (Felicia), Michael Wharton
of Maryland, and Beverly Cartledge (Jimmy) of Maryland, a devoted niece Lorri Ann
Wharton Massey, best friend Robert Tate, 14 grandchildren and a host of great-
grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving wife Willie Ester Wharton and beloved son
Marlon Vincent Wharton.
Lewis Wharton was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Providence, NC. He was a
pillar in the community where he farmed and gave to any family in need be it vegetables or
pears. He assisted with funding of Dillard School and humbly maintained the property.
Lewis Wharton was a kind soul that left his mark on every one that he came in contact with.
He loved sports and discussing politics by telling stories of how he has seen his race
progress over the years, but more work had to come.
