Mebane- Early on the morning of March 13, 2020, our Lord and Savior called home Mr. Walter Leon Poole of 8256 NC Highway 119 S, Mebane, NC. He transitioned to a new home with his family by his side at UNC Hospice Care in Pittsboro, NC.
Leon was born to Walter and Erma Poole on August 13, 1942. Leon was united in marriage on April 9, 1966 to Josephine Pennix Poole, who devotedly supported and cared for him during his illness. Leon and Josephine were married for 53 years. During this union they were blessed with two children, Kermit Maurice (Janice) of Midlothian, VA and Katina Maureen Poole Anderson of Mebane, NC; five grandchildren: Kristopher Poole, Tommy Anderson IV, Tamia Anderson, Timothy Anderson of Las Vegas, NV and Titus Anderson of Mebane, NC. Leon enjoyed spending time with his family and telling jokes.
Leon joined Beulah Baptist Church at an early age. He faithfully served until his health began to decline. He enjoyed singing in the male chorus, attending and serving in Sunday school. Leon is also a graduate of Caswell County High School.
Leon worked at Burlington Industries for many years and retired from Riddle Manufacturing. He was proud of his work and the afghans he made. Leon had a strong work ethic and wanted to ensure that his children knew the importance of hard work. He worked to provide for his family, but was most instrumental to ensure that his children furthered their education, having the philosophy of wanting a better future.
In addition to his wife and children, Leon is survived by his mother, Erma Daye Poole of Mebane, NC; four sisters: Gladys Pennix (Willie), Mary Ann Holman (Phil), Lena Pounds (James) all of Mebane, NC, Helen Torain of Cedar Grove, NC; four brothers: Grady Poole of Graham, NC, Perry Poole (Darlene) of Burlington, NC, Ernest Poole, Amos Poole (Cassandra) of Mebane, NC; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his father: Walter Poole, sisters: Catheryn Hooker, Eva Wilson and Carolyn Poole. Oh what a joyful reunion they will have when they all meet!
