William Claude Thaxton Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Claude Thaxton Sr, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. William (Joe) departed from this world on July 6th at Sovah Health in Danville, VA after a brief illness at the age of 84.

William Claude Thaxton was born on February 26, 1939 to the late Eddie Jack Thaxton and the late Ressie Odessa Rone Thaxton. He was married to the late Marjorie Virginia Thaxton. In addition, he is preceded in death by two siblings; Amy Womack Cardwell and Roy Sugar Ray Thaxton. 

William retired as a baker in Queens, New York, before returning back to the place he loved in Semora, NC, where he worked as a state contractor, mowing highways during the summer months. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and was an avid New York Yankee and Duke Blue Devil's fan. William leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Robert Wydell Thaxton of Semora,  NC and William Thaxton Jr (Sharon) of Rolesville, NC; two daughters, Shirley Laverne Waterman (Donald) of Raleigh, NC and Cheryl Ann Thaxton of Aubrey, TX; three brothers, Marcella Thaxton (Mary Ann) of Blanch, NC, EJ Wendell Thaxton (Mary Ann) of Roxboro, NC and Roger Thaxton (Chris) of South Boston, VA; two sisters Hannah Harris Williams of Roxboro, NC and Helen Lipscomb of Semora, NC; two sisters in law, Phyllis Thaxton and Daisy Daye; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
